   She was forced to return the furniture and other gifts she stole. I’m not sure what happened with the silverware.

   Anyone who denies this FACT is a liar.

   WASHINGTON — White House Chief Usher Gary Walters tells CNN that former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton have notified the White House they intend to return $28,000 in furnishings they removed from the White House when moving out in January.

   Critics have raised persistent questions about whether removing the furniture was appropriate — and whether the furniture was a gift to the Clintons or to the White House. Walters told CNN that the Clintons said they wanted to avoid any questions of impropriety, although they insisted that a check of the records indicated the gifts were available to them.

   The Park Service serves as a steward for the White House and is the only unit with the legal authority to accept gifts for the White House, according to the Post. A gift meant for the current White House occupants, by contrast, is routed through the White House gifts office, a separate unit.

   Two of the furniture makers whose donations the Clintons took with him told the Washington Post earlier this week their gifts were part of a widely publicized, $396,000 redecoration of the executive mansion and not meant for Clinton personally.

   “When we’ve been asked to donate, it was always hyphenated with the words, ‘White House,”‘ New York manufacturer Steve Mittman told the Post of his family-owned business, which gave two sofas, an easy chair and an ottoman, worth $19,900 and listed by Clinton as part of the gifts he took with him.

   Things the Clintons took with them were all personal gifts given to them, not things that belonged to the White House before they came.
   This is all a pack of lies spread by people who don’t care about the truth.
   PS: Thanks for the link, but the link itself says the items were gifts, the only question is is it appropriate for them to take it or not based on the rules. Then they returned them anyway – all a tempest in a teapot!

   Who cares what she took? Every new administration can redecorate as they please (including china and flatware), so better it’s in her living room than a dusty storage closet.

   That is a rumor and a lie. The Clintons didn’t take anything that wasn’t theirs. That lie was spread by Karl Rove just to discredit them. Apparently, dispite evidence to the contrary, some still believe it. Why? Because they want to believe it true or not.

   The gifts were given to U.S. not us. I heard about the silver & gold setting that went with the china used at a function recently.
   Who knows for sure. But I laugh at the couple that say it’s a lie and blame Republican’s. Gimme a break. Research and u put the material right in their face and still it is a blame game. Then these are the first to complain too. It is symptomatic with the whole country. NO One pays attention to details just a headline. A journalist nightmare. Acting like puppets, so I agree. Thank you.

   My understanding is that they returned about $100 grand’s worth and wrote a check (or had some mysterious chinaman write a check) for the other $300 grand’s worth that they kept.
