Should I ask my manager who is Executive Vice President to put in a good word for regarding an internal job?
Hey guys and gals,
I’ve been working for a company for 2.5 years as an Admin Assistant for the Executive Vice President of my company. There is a position available for another Admin Asst position which pays maybe 3-5k more than my position now. Should I ask him to put in a good word for me or tell him that I have applied for the position because I am seeking more responsible and there is a pay increase? Thanks!
Tell him you have applied for the position. Then ask if the VP would consider writing you a letter of recommendation. That letter with carry more weight than his just mentioning it to the HR person. Plus it shows you value your boss’s opinion.
Yes you should ask whether you would be able to get a commendation from your boss to see if you would be able to get a good word from him. If he says no, then you will have to apply like the other internal applicants, and then hope that you will get the job. With the economy there will be quite a competition for this position with the fact that there is a significant pay increase. I do wish you the best of luck being able to get the pay increase and the new job.
