Nixon resigned. So did his original vice president spirow agnew. Nixon appointed Ford as his VP before he resigned, and Ford appointed a new VP. This was the only time in history when both the president and vice president were not elected by the people. As far as helping him, I don’t really think it did.. he pardoned nixon…
After the Watergate scandal and the tapes of Nixon was in on it, and he had to leave office. Ford became our next President, but he pardoned Nixon.
before becoming vice president, ford was the speaker of the house. the line up for presidency if the president cant serve is vp then speaker of the house. because the vp, spirow agnew resigned ford (speaker of the house) replaced him. unlike what the first post says, ford wasnt appointed by nixon to be vp, he was entitled to the position. nixon didnt have a say in the matter. it actually didnt help him at all. the american people disliked him because he wasnt elected to the position of vp and later pres.
Gerald Ford was a representative from the state of Michigan with much seniority. When the vice president under Richard Nixon, Spiro Agnew, resigned for some improprieties, Gerald Ford was chosen to be the Vice President. Then when President Nixon got caught up in the Watergate affair, he, too , resigned and the Vice President took over the duties. That is when Gerald Ford became President. President Ford had many years in the Congress which helped him during his tenure in office.
