Do any of these four have a chance at being nominated by the republicans?
Four GOP presidential candidates have refused to sign a controversial marriage pledge, which asks them to support outlawing pornography, upholding the Defense of Marriage Act and creating a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney as well as fellow candidates Tim Pawlenty, Jon Huntsman and Newt Gingrich have not signed the Family Leader’s Marriage Vow Pledge, but Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum have.
Romney was the first GOP presidential candidate who refused to sign the pledge.
yes yes yes yes yes yes and yes
Romney and Huntsman are the only two who would have any chance at attracting moderate voters in the General Election. If Republicans decide to call those two RINOs and elect a total wing-nut like Bachmann then Obama will win in a land-slide.
They represent the four best possibilities for GOP success in a general election, which makes me think that one of them would garner the Republican nomination. I thought it would be Romney or Gingrich, but Huntsman may replace Gingrich as the GOP idea man in this election cycle.
Let me put it this way. Members of the Republican party in Iowa must be 100% employed at good paying secure jobs with great benefit packages otherwise they wouldn’t have time to waste on Victorian era issues. When they get to New Hampshire there will be a much different electorate in play who always take fiscal and economic issues seriously first and foremost. If you haven’t got a record that reflects well on your ability to nurture job creation, to tax fairly, and to appropriate and spend wisely then you might want to skip New Hampshire.
Good for Romney and the others for refusing to sign such an odious pledge. Gay men and women are both human beings and US citizens. They deserve the equal protection of all our laws and it is always instructive to see which candidates would pander to those voters who would deny them their dignity and humanity.
Romney still has the best chance of all the GOP candidates in my opinion.
