Here’s what he had to say when host David Gregory asked him if the Tea Party represented a lasting force in American politics. “The Tea Party was born because of the economy. The Tea Party will disappear as soon as the economy gets better and the economy is getting better all the time. I don’t think the Tea Party had the vigor and support people thought it would.” David “That’s a pretty newsy prediction that the Tea Party is not here to stay, it will go away when the economy improves.” Harry: “Well it’s true, that’s nothing original with me but it’s how I feel about it.” A writer for AmericanThinker says the Nevada Democrat, who narrowly won reelection in November against Tea Party-backed Republican candidate Sharron Angle, is delusional. “Reid is apparently laboring under the delusion that millions of newly-awakened Tea Party Americans will simply blow their party horns and then go right back to sleep, fold their tents and go home.” And a writer for Death and Taxes says the Tea Party is about much more than the economy and Senator Reid is overlooking the cultural and social elements of the party. “It’s not the anti-tax protest it was back in 2009, … Tea Partiers aren’t simply interested in economics.
