I ask because I see some questions and answers, and even on CNN and Fox News, that sometimes people put a very definitive line between liberals & democrats and between conservatives & republicans but others just think that left is left and right is right.
Are some Republicans realizing that they may lose an election if they associate with the far Right? By distancing themselves from the 10-15% of the “Far Right” will they increase their chances of getting elected?
Since the majority of Americans do not agree with the Far Right, are these Republicans just following the majority?
Some are already decrying the Far Right’s Glenn Beck as “cynical” and “not a Republican. Will this help them?
By going against the groups in the Far Right like the Tea Party protesters do these Republicans risk a backlash from these Far Right groups?
I believe that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and Jefferson Davis was a Democrat. I’ve reading a bit on the civil war (for school, so it’s not much), and I’m under the impression that during that era, the Democrats were the White Supremacists and the Republicans wanted equality for all. Nowadays, people seem to view the Republicans as racists from the South (not that I do, I’m a Republican and I’m from Davis, CA, one of the most liberal towns I know…), and Democrats as looking forward to reform and change. I was just curious, does anyone know when this started happening?

I know plenty of democrats went along with it too, so its not all republican’s faults. I just find it amazing how many people will still defend Bush and say Iraq was the right thing to do. Also did any of you republicans oppose the war in the beginning?
