I am not a liberal. I am not a conservative. I am an independent. I am just wondering what happened to the democrat party in America. They used to stand for freedom. Now they stand for censorship through political correctness and support of the nanny state. Are the democrats slowly moving to the extreme left, as the republican party is moving to the extreme right? I believe that the United States is an overly conservative nation that needs to be moved to the left more, but in the right way. Political correctness is not the right way. Banning anything that is offensive is not the right way.

I would like to see Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and a more experienced Sarah Palin.

When Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania switched from the Republican party to the Democratic party, it was the fashionable thing to do. Now the word Democrat is political poison. I wonder if he could see the future if he would have switched parties and kept the filibuster away from the Republicans so the Democrats could pass ill advised legislation.

Is it easier for the republican party,knowing that the black vote is going democrat, not having to take on the
issues or concerns of the black vote?

He may have bombed his speech for the Republican party, but I think he is a decent governor – Louisiana was the only state in the union to INCREASE employment in early 2009/late 2008, and he is not a "Republican in name only" – he truly believes in the principles of right-wing politics.

I once looked in the dictionary and all it said was that a democrat was a person who belonged to the democratic party and a republican was a person belonging to the republican party. Not a very good definition! I have no idea what the two parties are aIl about. I want to know what each political party stands for and what is the underlying difference between them.

Most right wing conservatives are both republican and in Tea Party most republicans are in the Tea Party.

So how can the Tea Party be different then the republican party when most republicans are in the Tea Party.

One of the most compelling images of the Civil Rights movements was of demonstrators being attacked with fire hoses and police attack dogs in Alabama in 1963. Many blacks switched to the Democrat party in 1964.

The attack was ordered by Public Safety Commissioner Bull Connor.

Why did everybody forget that Bull Connor was a life-long DEMOCRAT????

He lived until 1973. He NEVER joined the Republican party.

If blacks knew it was a Democrat attacking them with police dogs, would they have still switched to the Democrat party?
