Lord Save Us From Your Followers Part 9
The humorous, provocative and moving examination of the Culture Wars and faith in America. Featuring interviews from all sides of the issues, the film is a balanced, challenging and entertaining foray into the most divisive and difficult topics in our culture. Includes interviews with Al Franken, Sen. Rick Santorum, Dr. Tony Campolo, Sister Mary Timothy, Michael Reagan, Ron Luce as well as rousing man-on-the-street interviews with director Dan Merchant dressed as Bumpersticker Man, a wild Culture Wars game show pits a Liberal Media Elite team against a team of Young Conservatives and a powerful “reverse Confession Booth” at a Gay Pride event provides unexpected emotion.
You know what I truly love about this. The narrator doesn’t say “they did this and I’m sorry”. He said “we did this and I’m sorry”.
seeing the dialogue between tryin2understand and fpmdsc just gave me hope. Thanks.
Christians repent of your evil, Godless ways!
@tryin2understand
The fact of the matter is that if Christians want to say that they are filled with the spirit of forgiveness, love, compassion, and all the rest of the Fruits of the Spirit, then the apologies need to start with them.
Joh 7:7 “The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil.
@fpmdsc You too my friend!
@tryin2understand – I’m right there with you, my friend. I’m as flawed as they come! I absolutely do take your word that you do give to others and do your part to contribute to God’s Kingdom here on earth. We’re all just a work in progress. Thank goodness that God is patient with all of us. Keep fighting the good fight!
@fpmdsc You are right. I can’t argue with anything you said. And I really do try to give to others without expecting anything back. You don’t know me personally so you’ll just have to take my word on that. I’m human, created by God and I’m flawed. Sorry. I will from time to time be effected by things like hypocrisy…or the fact that Christians (as well as Jesus and God) continue to be ridiculed in Hollywood TV and movies. This DOES bother me. Again….sorry. I’m flawed. I’m a sinner.
@sireenn I think you missed my point. I was simply pointing out the hypocrisy of Christians owing gays an apology. My question is, if both gays and Christians are guilty of bashing each other (and we all know they are) why is it being put forth in this documentary that only the Christians need apologize? Kind of leaves one with the impression that only one side was ever in the wrong. Sorry…I have a real problem with that.
By the way…..when did I ever say that I do not accept gays?
You are completely missing the point of this documentary.
Shut up about what you believe personally and do what Jesus would do. Which is love people no matter what. You saw the Pope forgive his own assassin and you can’t accept gay people?
tryin2understand – Jesus called us to accountability for ourselves without asking anything from others. Jesus said that we are to give to others without expecting repayment (Luke chapter 6) and that we are supposed to do good to others regardless of how they treat us. (Thank goodness that was HIS attitude, or we’d all be headed for eternal destruction!) If someone smacks you in the face, don’t retalliate! Let ‘em do it again if necessary! Just show them love. That was part of His message!
@MonisticWonder I never said anything about gays apologizing first. But the assumption here seems to be that it is the Christians who owe the apology. And I couldn’t help noticing that the gay people in the video all basked in the apology from the Christian…and then never offered up an apology of their own for how their side has been guilty of bashing Christians for many years. (And bashed them for what exactly? Standing up for their firmly held beliefs?)
@tryin2understand He’s trying to open a dialogue. You can’t open a dialogue by demanding the other side say sorry first.
@tryin2understand This film had so much merit and made so many GREAT points. We do need to stop being divided. Which is why I’m so sad that it all spiraled down to this stupid, one-sided “confessional” for Christians to apologize to gays. Merchant lost points with me on this BIGTIME for the hypocrisy of it. How about a “confession” from gays for mistreatment of Christians like the actions of San Fran’s despicable Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence who disrupted an actual Catholic church mass?
I was liking this film until Pt 9. Sorry but I don’t think it is right to attempt to boil everything down to this idea that Christians owe gays confession for mistreatment, but gays DO NOT owe Christians the exact same confession for THEIR mistreatment of us Christians. There is well documented mistreatment from the gay community towards Christians…very ugly stuff. Merchant should have evened the playing field a bit and included a “confessional” for gays to apologize to Christians as well.
In this movie, Dan Merchant praises the actions of Nelson Mandela as a great example to all of us. Now, watch this video in which the brigand, Nelson Mandela sings about killing whites.

Nelson Mandela also said that murdering animal Fidel Castro was his best friend. Shame on you Merchant.
@terriergal But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the bodya and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
The people in the confessional do raise some excellent questions, but the temptation will be to make light of sin — their sin, our sin, etc. Sin is what caused Jesus Christ, the perfectly innocent Son of God, to be slaughtered on the cross. It is a perfect picture of what Christ thinks of these things we think are just “lifestyles” or “mistakes.” Whether it’s gay or hetero, or Christian or non Christian. You cannot be saved unless you realize these sins justly condemn each of us to hell.
