Why is Rand Paul so afraid to embrace his libertarian beliefs?
He’s now saying that he supports the Civil Rights Act of ’64. Forcing businesses to serve blacks and gays? Now that doesn’t sound very libertarian-like. After all, that would be be a government infringement on businesses owners. He seemed to be supporting the rights of businesses to discriminate during his interview on Maddow, but backed off the next day. What are we supposed to believe?
Do you think we’re ready for his style of free market fundamentalism?
He is a novice politician i guess. I am very disappointed in his apparent flip flop.
He is playing a game with the teabaggers. It’s a delicate balance for Rand Paul.
He doesn’t want to be made out to be a Southern Conservative by the media, but his views seem to match those that are always screaming “the south will rise again!”
He’s a nut that did not fall far from the tree.
Toonces has it right. Paul is walking a tightrope. He’d like to be a libertarian, but OTOH he’d also like to WIN. So he’s speaking very carefully, trying to sound reasonable and moderate on the surface, but trying to appeal to Kentucky Republicans with code words and slightly veiled messages.
Besides, we’re talking about KENTUCKY here! Libertarianism is very cerebral, very abstract and intellectual. That stuff doesn’t go over in Kentucky. Look at Mitch McConnell and Jim Bunning. See any cerebral there? Anything subtle or shaded or even moderate?
He has shown that he is just another politician (albeit one with LOONY ideas about some things). The Tea party supporters are running like drowning rats off that ship.
Already they are spinning it as “He did not say that” and “he’s just a minor politician from a small state” when Tuesday night and Wednesday he was the symbol of the coming election storm.
It is hysterical….
