It’s because he is accustomed to speaking to fellow racists, and now that he’s realized it doesn’t play very well among the vast majority of Americans, he has to find some way to weasel out of his racism.
He is not backpedaling. What he implied with his statement is Government needs to stay out of private businesses. Re-read the 10th amendment of our constitution.
because the liberals took out of context what he said now they are trying their little hearts out to label him a kkk, 1950′s this that, typical liberal just use scare tactics and lie
I have not heard any such thing. His position remains the same. It is the position of every Libertarian. It is not about racism but about the Federal Government’s power. Mr. Maddow asked him if a white business owner should be allowed to refuse to serve a Black customer. He said, yes. But he also would have said yes if it was a Black business owner refusing to serve him. Or an Asian business owner refusing to serve an Indian etc. The Libertarian position is that people should be allowed to run their own businesses as they choose.
It is not about racism which Rand Paul is dead set against, but about the Federal Government seizing power it simply does not have according to the Constitution. The Federal Government can prohibit “institutional” racism but has no standing concerning individual racism.
Libertarians are consistent that way. They reject the expansion of Federal Power even if it is to do something “good”.
Now if you want to see back-peddling, have a look at Richard Blumenthal.
He isn’t . If you had listened to him instead of media’s talking points you would have not taken out of context his statements. You are a pawn in liberal media.
LISTEN TO THE MAN and not liberals about WHAT WAS SAID! I listened to him and what is being said is NOT WHAT HE SAID…
Because it’s in the process of destroying his political career.
He wants to avoid segregation personally, but also wants to passively allow it to take place at someone else’s request. Passive allowance of racism is barely better than being outright racist.
Conservatives whine about the race card, yet they’re the ones dealing the cards out. Can’t blame anyone else for putting them back on the table.
It is because the National Republican Committee threatened to disown him unless he did. I actually congratulate Mr. Paul for being honest. I am sure many Republicans would like to see the 1964 law overturned but will not say so in public.
No different from McCain backtracking on his “maverick” statement or support for illegal amnesty. Most Republicans let their mouths talk before their brains conceive what it is they truly want to say, though I can assure you, that is what Rand Paul truly wanted to say.
@Vickilynn, you are so racist on here, but I bet in real life, you are on hush mode around us minorities, though you will be one soon.
Because Democrats will pounce with the Race card any time their opposition slips up. Forget that the Democrats have done nothing for Blacks in place like my city. 30% of my town lives in poverty, and none of them can comprehend that the highest taxes in the country (Upstate NY) have destroyed our private sector and the government does nothing but line the pockets of political supporters. The Facts contradict the rhetoric, but why should they care? They’re in charge and have been for decades. I cannot comprehend how they get away with blaming Republicans when there are only 10 in the entire county.
The message on massive government are correct, but the racial tones are wrong. Why can’t we have a realistic approach? You have to be one or the other in this country, and it’s the reason for all the divisiveness.
Because he didn’t say what the left is trying to pin on him and now that he is trying to tell people the truth the left is lying again about him backpedaling.
Because he is green and should be a little more specific in what he is saying. He needs to (what you call) back pedal in order to be interpreted the way he actually wanted it interpreted in the first place.
Good to see someone who is honest but he needs to get up to speed quick smart.
At best it displayed an ignorance of the law. Don’t we already have enough ignorant people in office?
At worst it revealed a desire to allow business owners to segregate and discriminate.
We tore the country up over the right to sit at a lunch counter in Woolworth’s fifty years ago. It is to be hoped there is not going back.
Most of you don’t remember those days, they are far and away not worth repeating.
You are only complaining because he’s not a Democrat or a Liberal.
Really could you stand to have EVERY word out of your mouth so closely scrutinized? Obama Can’t. Pelosi can’t. Reid Can’t. The only time they open their mouth is to change feet.
The ONLY hope Democrats have at not losing their biblical beast of burden in November is to throw as much mud at the opposition as they can and hope enough sticks.
Because Americans will not stand for such blatant racism.
Because he made a boo boo and he needs votes.
Because he touches himself at night

Because he’s a wimp and not the answer to the USA’s problems like the Libertarians claimed the Pauls were.
because he realizes the error of his comments.
too late.

It is taken totally out of context!
It’s because racism isn’t popular even in a state like Kentucky.
Because it’s in the process of destroying his political career.
He wants to avoid segregation personally, but also wants to passively allow it to take place at someone else’s request. Passive allowance of racism is barely better than being outright racist.

Yes even the Tea Party people come with baggage
I have no idea. He’s a racist, and Kentucky will elect him regardless, so he should just be himself.

LLC (defined on my profile)
he certainly has that ‘deer in the headlights’ look in his eyes, let us hope he grows a back-bone really quick
What kind of mother of ill repute, would name her newborn son Rand Paul?

Let me guess.. another low IQ liberal who hasn’t actually heard what he said? You just believed what your puppet masters told you and went with it?

Because racism is unacceptable, immoral, unethical, and frankly – stupid.
He’s shown his true colors …

Because he never said he would repeal the civil rights act. Sorry, it’s just another MSNBC lie.
