   It’s because he is accustomed to speaking to fellow racists, and now that he’s realized it doesn’t play very well among the vast majority of Americans, he has to find some way to weasel out of his racism.

   He is not backpedaling. What he implied with his statement is Government needs to stay out of private businesses. Re-read the 10th amendment of our constitution.

   I have not heard any such thing. His position remains the same. It is the position of every Libertarian. It is not about racism but about the Federal Government’s power. Mr. Maddow asked him if a white business owner should be allowed to refuse to serve a Black customer. He said, yes. But he also would have said yes if it was a Black business owner refusing to serve him. Or an Asian business owner refusing to serve an Indian etc. The Libertarian position is that people should be allowed to run their own businesses as they choose.

   It is not about racism which Rand Paul is dead set against, but about the Federal Government seizing power it simply does not have according to the Constitution. The Federal Government can prohibit “institutional” racism but has no standing concerning individual racism.

   Libertarians are consistent that way. They reject the expansion of Federal Power even if it is to do something “good”.

   Now if you want to see back-peddling, have a look at Richard Blumenthal.

    He wants to avoid segregation personally, but also wants to passively allow it to take place at someone else’s request. Passive allowance of racism is barely better than being outright racist.

    Conservatives whine about the race card, yet they’re the ones dealing the cards out. Can’t blame anyone else for putting them back on the table.

    It is because the National Republican Committee threatened to disown him unless he did. I actually congratulate Mr. Paul for being honest. I am sure many Republicans would like to see the 1964 law overturned but will not say so in public.

    No different from McCain backtracking on his “maverick” statement or support for illegal amnesty. Most Republicans let their mouths talk before their brains conceive what it is they truly want to say, though I can assure you, that is what Rand Paul truly wanted to say.

    Because Democrats will pounce with the Race card any time their opposition slips up. Forget that the Democrats have done nothing for Blacks in place like my city. 30% of my town lives in poverty, and none of them can comprehend that the highest taxes in the country (Upstate NY) have destroyed our private sector and the government does nothing but line the pockets of political supporters. The Facts contradict the rhetoric, but why should they care? They’re in charge and have been for decades. I cannot comprehend how they get away with blaming Republicans when there are only 10 in the entire county.

    The message on massive government are correct, but the racial tones are wrong. Why can’t we have a realistic approach? You have to be one or the other in this country, and it’s the reason for all the divisiveness.

    At best it displayed an ignorance of the law. Don’t we already have enough ignorant people in office?
    At worst it revealed a desire to allow business owners to segregate and discriminate.
    We tore the country up over the right to sit at a lunch counter in Woolworth’s fifty years ago. It is to be hoped there is not going back.
