Is the public option a republican or democrat thing?
I’m a democrat and believe in a public option and I’ve heard that alot of democrats are for the public option. So is it a bipartisan thing?

The public option will ultimately put private insurance companies out of business.
Why is it that you can be selfish and demand that I not only pay for your health-care insurance, but I have to give up MY health insurance in the process. Yet you call me selfish??
If you believe the bull that the politicians tell you about "how good Canada and the UK’s government-run health care is, do a little research — not only are their systems going bankrupt, the health care sucks. Or check out the following links:

Most republicans are against a public option. Key word being option. That tells me republicans don’t want people like me having any option when it comes to health care. Pay the outrageous prices or have none is what they want.
You "believe in a public option"? Is that a new religion?
Yes there are a few Republicans that support the public option but it is a Democratic proposal. Most Republicans are sticking up for the companies. They really are the party of the companies and the Democratic party is the party of the people. Companies try to get away with what they can and people take back or stop what is being taken from them. Just like with 911, our wages were attacked.
It’s primarily a democrat thing. But then, there’s a "compromise" bill out there which has an even more dangerous version of a public option in it, and it has bipartisan sponsorship. The Republican sponsor is one of the senators from my state. Come election time, he will not be the senator of my state because I think enough people here have realized that he has been out of touch with us for at least the past 20 years, and I think we will even vote for a democrat (my state is very republican) if the democrat shows that he/she is more conservative than this guy.
real republicans are being worked with in congress. the nut so citizen republicans who live in hicksville oppose it b/c…well..they were told to by special interest groups
Its a Dem. thing.
And it is a lie to call it an ‘option’–it is an option in name only because the details of the plan would shut down private insurance companies altogether in a few years. Then the only OPTION would be government owned insurance.
Dems refuse to accept that reality. So… yawn.
Democrats are for the public option. Republicans are against government taking control of everything (car companies, banks, health care, how much a company can pay) and they are also against people becoming dependent on the government, which is Obama’s plan as he stated in a speech in 2007 when he said it may take a couple years to achieve a single payer system.
To Nunya k (First Answer): You can’t be serious. Just because it’s called the public "option" doesn’t mean that it will actually be just one option in the market. Just read the bill. Democrats are shameless when it comes giving legislation misleading names. Just look at the "Employee Free Choice Act" or the "Fairness Doctrine."
its a seventy percent of the population thing. on capital hill its a bit different. its who is getting paid to vote no and that crosses party lines. the gop will probably be unanomously against it because they dont want obama to succeed. doesnt matter if its good for the country. they were saying this before there was even a bill to object to. the majority of doctors and the general population are for it. but the health care companys have spent millions to key senators that can obstruct the bill.
This is an area that is quite surprising to me as you would think that most democrats would want the public option but some are being bribed to vote against it with big bucks. Terrible situation!!!!
Obama and company need to take the bull by the horns and say enough is enough and just do what is best for the American people.
Obviously the people we have in Washington representing us are a bunch hooligans and could care less about the American people.
This is definitely a bipartisan issue. It all boils down to doing what is best for the American people and, of course, the public option would help a lot of Americans out.
