QandA May 25th – response to question on Ryan Commission Report
A question is asked about the Ryan Commission report on child abuse within institutions run by the religious orders in Ireland. After the panel had spoken the questioner responded and his response…well see for yourself. Just a note, but my apologies for the ragged nature of the end of the piece. The Irish Association of Pensions Funds has stated that the pension charges are a precursor for the government putting a levy on deposits. The question is do you think the government has the effrontery to take money from the citizens’ deposits in their banks? If you think it is possible that the government will place a levy on your bank deposits, as I do, I would urge you to take your money from your banks before the government takes a portion from you.
This is a very moving testimony. What always sticks in my craw, any time i’ve seen this, though, is that that this man, as he alludes to here, went on to become a FF councillor and mayor and prop up the very party that sought to sweep this stuff under the carpet and allow it to continue.
I’m not condemning the man for this; but when he knew what was going on, siding with those who continued to foster this system smacks of Stockholm Syndrome, at best.
Anyway, he showed great courage here.

I still dont understand when everyone knows it happened that they can say it doesn’t. over 70,0000 women were put in laundries and beaten and had to work for nothing and their children were taken away and beaten and ill treated. It happened and the church should own up should pay something anything the state knew people had to know. Let the suffering stop.

@39Auldkellier its stands to reason the majority of people in this country were persuaded based on whats writen in the newspapers/tv on the so called scandals on the church ergo they have an established opinion, thats how propaganda works it usually convinces the majority otherwise it’d be ineffective!!
