What was the favorite camera of Barack Obama’s campaign photographers?
I saw some of the campaign photos of Barack Obama and they look extremely good. Now these pictures were no small achievement even under the perfect conditions, so when you consider that at no time did Barack Pose for them, there was no way to control the lighting and little time or space to set up a tripod stand, it makes the fact that these pictures were so good, that much more impressive.
Does anyone know what was their choice in cameras?
The camera tends to not matter nearly as much as the lens.
There are any number of high quality (expensive) fast zoom lenses out there — wide maximum aperture and fast shutter speed equals much less worry about lighting and tripods. You do tend to be talking at least into the 4 figures for such lenses though.
Also keep in mind that with today's digital cameras, results tend to be large and detailed enough that cropping can occur for things like campaign photos without significant loss in quality. Things don't have to be shot perfectly coming out of the camera. Photographers can even fire off multiple bursts at various key times since the cameras and memory cards can handle it — they can sort through things for a nice shot later (and crop as needed).
But anyway, it's the lenses that matter more than anything.
No but most high speed cameras would yield the same results.
Any of those campaign photos could have been taken with any camera because they are done by photo journalists. Plus they were probably using some fast > $1000 lenses.
I do know that the official portrait was shot on a Canon 5D Mark II.
