What are your thoughts on Newt Gingrich running for president in 2012?
Please respond only if your are familiar with this man starting when he was Speaker of House? Also, do you think Pelosi is any good? She seems scatterbrained in interviews and stutters, but that is beside the point.
Gingrich will never run for president.
He knows he won’t win.
He lost his House seat because he’s such a jackass.
And he knows it.
He makes barrels of money by THREATENING to run.
Guaranteeing 4 more years of Obama sounds fine to me.
Gingrich is yet another ‘moral majority’ person who, clearly, violated his own morals. He attacked Obama for claiming to be a citizen of the US and the world, but didn’t attack Reagan for saying the same thing. He’s a partisan who puts party above his own nation and who puts his selfish wants over his own family and supposed morals.
Know him
That’s all BLANK…thats what I think about him…nothing
No matter who they put in the next election will not matter..
Pelosi is, was & always will be worthless.
Newt’s great. a terrific mind & implementor, but I think he lacks the personal appeal & communicative ability that would be good for a president. Love to see him in the cabinent tho’.
House speakers typically don’t get elected president. The only one was James Polk in 1844.
Don’t like him or Pelosi. But the Speaker of the House is traditionally a hack anyway. A hack or a puppet.
You mean the guy who’s been married 3 times, Divorced his first wife after she had undergone cancer surgery and still recovering. Cheated on his second wife with his future third wife at the same time he was going after Clinton for his affair. Fat chance of him getting in to the oval office in 2012. Pelosi doesn’t stand a chance either.
I like Gingrich but I don’t think he will run for president. Pelosi is a traitor and should be exiled.
Not much. I like a lot of what he said, but not what he did to his wife.
Newt Gingrich is an extremist and a bully who, as Speaker of the House, shut down the government because he was in a pouty snit over which door he was allowed to use on Air Force One. Gingrich also had to step down as Speaker and pay a $300,000 fine for ethics violations and for lying. He delivered divorce papers to his first wife, Jackie, while she was hospitalized for cancer, and then cheated on his second wife Marianne, and while he was preaching ad nauseum on “family values” and vilifying President Clinton, Gingrich, the sanctimonious hypocrit, was having an affair with a female aide to Congressman Steve Gunderson (Flynt, 2004). Gingrich declared all-out war against Democrats, using the German philosopher Nieszchke’s approach (adapted by Nazis in Germany) to “dehumanize” and “vilify” Democrats/liberals in an attempt to sway voters—attacking more than half of America’s population, with the help of people from the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation, right-wing media mogul from Australia Rupert Murdoch, cult-evangelist Michael Farris, and others. This man is egomaniacal, highly unstable, and not fit to be president of the UNITED States. No thanks, we’ll stick with President Obama for 2012. He deserves a chance to follow through on his iniatives that serve ALL Americans and not just an evangelical nutjob few.
i’m 52 and know all about newt. 1. who in their right mind would name someone newt. 2. he had an affair while moaning about how nasty clinton was for moistening his cigar. 3. i only hope that he runs, fundies will not go for him, and most of the cons are fundies. 4. never vote republican
His political leanings not-withstanding, out of all the major players in American politics, he has the most knowledge of history and understanding of world events. And probably the most common sense, too. I’d give him a shot. Most liberals tell me it’s not fair to exploit politicians familial transgressions, so why gripe about what Newt did or didn’t do? If I made a list of Democrat OR Republican sexual dalliances, the length would cause my answer to be deleted. Pelosi I have strong feelings about. I laugh at some of the insipid things said about Gingrich, when they do apply to Pelosi. She’s a dolt who never should have been placed in the position she’s in. I don’t like painting anybody in this way, but this woman is a complete scarecrow. No brains and leans any way the wind blows. What talent we elect to high office. She scares me.
That is ok.He wont get my vote anyhow.I will never vote for a republican again anyhow.
I wouldn’t bet any of my own money on his winning.
Gingrich was a volatile but effective Speaker in his day, and, on his watch, Congress accomplish some things that the Clinton Administration is occassionally given credit (or blame) for. He holds some divisive opinions that he’s on the record stridently advocating, which makes him a less than perfect choice for an office that usually needs to apeal to the center. He’s not someone I would like, personally, trust to feed my cat while I was away for the weekened, or feel bad about accidentally shooting in the face while hunting quail, but he’d be as competent a President as either Clinton, either Bush, or Obama – none of whom I’d expect to keep my cat alive, either.
Pelosi I don’t care for at all. Seriously, what I said about Newt, BHO, Bill & Hillary, and Bush dynasty, above, it’s polite compared to the nicest things I could say about Pelosi. I’d say she’s in a class by herself, but Fienstien is one of our senators. It’s humiliating, really, to think about the quality of my State’s representation in Washington.
I am going to mention parties by registration (in percentages as of March 1, 2008) and then tell you why you need to pick someone who appeals to more than your base. After calculating, the source I used rounded percentages and as numbers are usually by state, I’m not giving a more accurate percentage:
Democrat- 41.66%
Republican- 31.89%
Independent (no political party)- 24.82%
Reform- 0.42%
Constitution- 0.41%
Green- 0.28%
Libertarian- 0.24%
Other- 0.29%
The minimum number of states needed to win the election is 12 (California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Virginia, and Massachusetts). However, the last time all of the above states voted in unison was the 1984 Presidential election. When they don’t vote in unison, you mainly have to have a majority of the states.
Edit: In 2010, we have a new census, which might lead to a redistribution of representatives ultimately leading to a redistribution of electoral college votes by state.
Edit: Due to a population shift, it is estimated the following states will gain electoral votes: Texas (4), Arizona (2), Florida (1), Georgia (1), Nevada (1), North Carolina (1), Oregon (1), South Carolina (1), and Utah (1). Also, it is estimated that the following states will lose electoral votes: Ohio (2), California (1), Illinois (1), Iowa (1), Louisiana (1), Massachusetts (1), Michigan (1), Minnesota (1), Missouri (1), New Jersey (1), New York (1), and Pennsylvania (1).
