Was Newt Gingrich right when he said other things can be cut before those recommended by the debt commission?
I’m no Newt fan but on Meet the Press yesterday he stood his ground against Alan Greenspan and some lib saying we had to listen to the debt commission and cut social security to balance the budget. Newt said in his own words we should cut everything else first.
We could make huge cuts in the $700 billion military budget and we could have NOT spent $3 trillion on two illegal wars.
We should immediately close down any government agency that has not fulfilled its stated mandate , such as Dept of ED and Energy , freeze and new Federal Hires , 10% pay cuts across the board . reduce their perks and pensions to private sector levels and force a gradual decrease of Government by at least 30% —————–The government created this mess all by themselves and i for one am tired of being forced to pay for their mistakes , screw em
I can agree with that. People pay a separate tax into that fund, with the reasonable expectation that they will get some of it back, and it wasn’t supposed to be used fill budget shortfalls. Congress should keep their mitts off of it.
He was 100% correct and just to name a few how about cuts, in congressional and presidential travel expenses, liquor for all branches, salaries of all government employees except for the military and law enforcement ( as they are the lowest paid and put the most on the line) eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts, Foreign aid, the EPA, Earmarks. Entertainment expenses for public officials.
Newt the Wonder Boy doesn’t have any debt solving secrets the commission doesn’t know about.
I think all federal agencies should have to justify their very existance to the taxpayers in an easy to understand format, and if they can’t, then the taxpayers could vote to abolish the federal agency. Perhaps abolishing 1 or 2 agencies or departments wouldn’t add up to much savings, but their are literally hundreds of departments and thousands of federal agencies. On a government website there are so many that they are even listed in alphebetical order from A-Z. So as I have stated before just abolishing 1or 2 agencies wouldn’t amount to much savings but abolishing perhaps hundreds of agencies oe federal departments employeeing hundreds of thousands of federal employees would save the taxpayers a lot of money. Most of these federal Departments were established by a Presidential Executive Order. This was a bad idea to allow 1 man/woman to have the power to start an entire department or agency. We need the power from the voters to remove this power or authority from the presidents hand to create an entire agency or Department with the stroke of a pen. The people of this nation need more say-so as to the way government spends our money.
