Do you agree with Newt Gingrich that illegals should be allowed to serve(see below)?
Newt Gingrich hаѕ ѕаіd hе wουld bе okay wіth military aspect οf DREAM Act. If thеіr sole purpose οf joining іѕ tο become a citizen аnd nοt disrupt cohesion, I rесkοn illegal ѕhουld bе allowed tο serve.
Illegals are already serving. This is nothing new.
Yes, they should serve as landmine finders….and as decoys…
Anyone passionate enough about being an American to serve in the military is someone I want to be an American!
I support the Dream Act and the bi-partisan McCain-Kennedy Comprehensive Immigration Act of 2007, which Bush tried very hard to get passed.
Most countries allow (or even draft) foreign residents into their armed services. We did it during the Vietnam War. The French Foreign Legion is the most well-known though, offering French citizenship and a new name after 5 years of service.
Technically, by law and international treaty (and with a couple of exceptions for diplomats and such), anyone who has been physically present in the USA for 183 days in a year is a “US resident” from their date of arrival. They are merely not “lawful permanent residents” because their presence is unauthorized. We can authorize it for a variety of reasons and military service IMHO is a excellent one.
I reckon Military service should be a quick-track to citizenship, yes.
Of course potential service members should be screened.
Ever since this debate started, I have been trying to figure out what is so hard to know about the word “illegal”…
Legal: Within the scope of the law, things that are not incorrect, being a natural born citizen of the US.
Illegal: Outside the law, things that are incorrect, jumping the fence to live in the US without being a citizen.
