Are Muslim girls forced to wear the hijab at Islamic primary and secondary schools?
Or is it optional, like in most Muslim countries, for a woman to cover her hair?
And also, do all of these Islamic schools have uniforms for boys and girls, or are there some that have generic dress-code requirements like public schools?
That would depend on the school in question.
optional, although when a girl goes through puberty it is mandatory in islam. and for those who say its not, they are not muslim.
In my muslim school i was forced to. And i was also forced to wear shirt down to my knees with pants and cover my chin!
forced is a strong word.
i believe in most islamic schools, wearing hijab is part of the uniform.
I go to an Islamic school in NY, United States and yes the uniform is to wear hijab starting from pre-k – 12g they do it like that so you can get used to wearing the hijab and want to wear it outside. some girls wear the hijab but in an islamic environment every1 should follw the islamic sharia
I don’t go to an Islamic school, but my cousins do.
They have to cover their hair as its part of the uniform and boys have to wear the “kippah” like hats.
Its not a question of force, its just like the uniform we are “forced” to wear in a “normal” school.
It depends on the school too, I know Muslim schools with no uniform too.
My sister is a teacher and she has 4 year old VEILED in England. Children have human rights and should be able to play with other kids freely.
yes, of course
and, if the girl don´t want to wear the burqa, the teacher and the boy students can rape her, and kill her
It’s not abt force; Muslim abide Allah’s word – SAMIHNA WA ATHAHNA – for others it’s question; for muslim it’s the respect to oneself and others’ around. Whether schools tells or otherwise, it’s to YOU, Allah addresses. How would u respond is your life & life-after.
I worked in an Islamic primary school, hijab was part of the uniform, however they were not forced, some girls used to take them off and we never said anything. The girls wore a long dress ((just below the knees)) with trousers, and the boys wore similar ones ((Jubbah/Thobe)).
About secondary again it is part of the Uniform ((many of my friends went to an Islamic Secondary School)) My friends wore hijab and Abayah, about the boys it would be again similar Jubbah/Thobe with trousers.
yes they are, or atleast in the schools near my house they are, i was about to go to an islamic school but the only reason i didnt was becauase they said that i have to wear a hijab with it..also they have uniforms in which the shirt covers your hips and thighs.
I went to an Islamic secondary school – and the hijab was part of the uniform as I’d imagine it to be in most Islamic secondary schools. However that doesn’t mean most of my class mates wore it outside of school. Some of them took it off for the journey home and the school was aware of that, as they have no control over you once you’re out of their premises.
As for primary schools it is recommended as I have a younger sister who attends one, but it varies with age. From grade 4 and above you won’t see a young girl without it. The dress code otherwise is similar to other Englsih primary schools. For example the white shirt, blue dress, black shoes etc.
There is a reason they are “Islamic Schools” – to teach young Muslims about their religion and I feel that the school uniform should reflect that as well, otherwise it seems quite contradictory.
Boys have a uniform too – that follow Islamic law and the rules of the school.
