The now out-of-print LDS book “Mormonism and the Negro” published up until the LDS Church changed its mind is the definitive source; It quotes the former LDS prophets. Prior to the pre-1978 “revelation” the LDS prophets consistently stated that God revealed the LDS position on blacks and the priesthood could NOT be altered until the resurrection of all of Adam’s children, not until after Christ’s 1000 year reign. So either God was wrong or the LDS Church caved in to public opinion.

I think this is a good answer. What is he saying? He’s saying, “Yes, my religion held firmly to a racist worldview long after the civil rights movement. Yes, my religion was wrong to do that, and yes, it was painful for me to endure that. However, I still saw enough good in my religion to remain an adherent.” I think it’s important to keep things in perspective here. The Mormon Church once had a racist policy that it has since disposed of; shame on them, but it isn’t unforgivable.
