What is so special about Michelle Obama?
I heard οn HNN thаt Michelle Obama іѕ being compared tο Oprah. Whу? Cаn someone please tеll mе one thing thаt ѕhе hаѕ done? (besides рlасе hеr arm around thе queen, аnd yes, i know thе queen touched hеr first, аnd іt wаѕ a kind gesture)
I have no thought. I heard that on HNN too…
For one thing, she is quite attractive.
You wanted to know one thing that she has done. Here are several:
She graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
She is a ormer associate dean at the University of Chicago; a member of six boards of directors including the prestigious Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and Tree House Foods; and Vice President, Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
As an Assistant to the Mayor, and as Assistant Commissioner of Plotting and Development. In 1993, she became Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies, a non-profit organization encouraging young people to work on social issues in nonprofit groups and government agencies. She worked there nearly four years and set fundraising records for the organization that still stood a dozen years after she left.
In 2002, she started working for the University of Chicago Hospitals, first as executive director for community affairs and, beginning May, 2005, as Vice President for Community and External Affairs.
In 2007, she became a full time member of her husband’s election campaign. She made several campaign appearances with Oprah Winfrey. She wrote her own stump speeches for her husband’s presidential campaign and generally spoke without notes.
Michelle Obama was regarded as a charismatic public speaker from the very beginning of the campaign.
In May 2006, Essence magazine listed her among "25 of the World’s Most Inspiring Women."
In September 2007, 02138 magazine listed her 58th of "The Harvard 100," a list of the prior year’s most influential Harvard alumni.
How does she compare to Oprah? Not at all, as you said.
Oprah comes from a dirt poor background of abuse. Michelle was born into an intellectual and educated family. Oprah did not graduate from any college or university. She did attend the University of Tennessee for awhile.
In 1983 Winfrey co-hosted the talk show AM Chicago, which she eventually took over. Within months she beat the top-rated Phil Donahue Show in viewership and AM Chicago is renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show.
In 1985 Quincy Jones cast Winfrey in Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple. Her like of acting and her desire to bring quality entertainment projects into production prompted her to form her own production company, HARPO Productions, Inc., in 1986.
In 1991, motivated in part by her own memories of childhood abuse, she initiated a campaign to establish a national database of convicted child abusers, and testified before a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of a National Child Protection Act.
Oprah Winfrey was named one of the 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century by Time magazine, and in 1998 received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Her influence extended to the publishing industry when she started her on-air book club. Oprah Book Club selections became instant bestsellers, and in 1999 she received the National Book Foundation’s 50th anniversary gold medal for her service to books and authors.
As you can see, these women are nothing alike and cannot be compared, but they are both high achievers in their own right. Oprah out did her raisings and Michelle has also made high level contributions to the country.
