What do you think of Michelle Obama saying that America is a cruel country?
This was a while ago, and yes, I am aware that she is not the one running for President, and also that her husband cannot control what she says. No bias here-just looking for answers from other open-minded people.

She knows what it is like to be starred down by those who think they are better than her, she knows how the country does not recognize black folks no matter how well they have achieved, and she hears the talk that most minorities hear when you go for a loan to buy a home, and when you try to buy a car, and when you try to put your kids in a better school because the neighborhood you live in is horrible on education. I guess I could say other things, but she has seen and heard the raw end of a racist society and it is unbelievable that her husband is being so well received and that she is campaigning in a presidential election for her spouse and not a white person, she is amazed, and so am I, and so are a lot of us, and I am not black, I am an Anglo and it’s great. I agree that she is finally proud of the country she lives in. God Bless her, and God Bless those who don’t understand that she is finally proud to live so equally and can hold her head up.
I am white, and I agree. Let’s take racial issues aside here: if I own a business, then I get tax credits because it is in the gvmts. interest that I prosper and am able to provide jobs. Therefore is it my responsibility to make sure that those who work for me are provided for: decent wages, paid sick leave, paid vacation leave, health care benefits, accident insurance(I am not talking about workman’s compensation, bec. if you ever filed for that will you have a hard time finding another job). So, in America, a lot of businesses, in particular in retail and places like Burger King, will you get a job that pays 5.45/hour, no benefits, no nothing. You get sick, you lose money right there. but worst of all, you can’t even go to the doctor, because at 75bucks just for the visit would you have to work an entire week just to pay for the doc. There is such thing as living wages—it runs around 10-12 dollars an hour. It means, if you work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week getting paid those wages, you can barely survive, but with the minimum wages do you have no chance to survive. So, this administration has allowed this to happen for the past 8 years. It has done nothing for those who work the hardest—because those jobs that pay the least are usually backbreaking jobs. Instead, this administration has looked on as companies like Exxon made huge profits(40.9 billion last year for Exxon alone), but they did not require the companies to pay their people decent wages and to give them benefits—I think that is a modern form of slavery, it is inhumane, and therefore cruel—and so I do agree with Michelle Obama…..

Yes what cruel country allowing a person with only 1500 SATS admittance to a ivy league college, allowing a woman making $150k (from a not-for-profit hospital) to receive a pay raise of $195k. Also received $100k into her pockets from Treehouse foods.

America, does, unfortunately, have a history of cruelty and, especially lately, has treated other sovereign nations as little more than pawns in some sort of grand geo-political game, with little or no regard for the people who live in said nations. Our ancestors committed something just short of genocide, intentionally and unintentionally, against the Native Americans. We systematically oppressed minorities, especially if they were Africans or Asians, until fairly recently. Many nowadays look down on Mexicans. We supported the tyranical regime of South Vietnam in the face of a national election that mandated Ho Chih Minh as leader of a unified Vietnam, in defiance of a treaty. We have supported brutal dictators like Saddam and Pinochet, because they were anti-commie. We must soberly recognize our past crimes and errors. We must realize that this doesn’t take away from all the good we have done, and this doesn’t make us some horrible, blood-soaked monster: most nation-states have extensive rap sheets. But we have to face our mistakes so that we may learn from them.
Politically, her stances and statements apply to Obama no more than the statements McCain’s mother made about Mormonism.

When I first saw Michelle on TV, I thought that she was lovely. However, when I heard her speech, where she stated twice that she had never been proud to be an American in her adult life…, followed by reading her college thesis, I realized that I had been mistaken. Michelle is a very angry person, an unpatriotic racist and I no longer want to see her in The White House, as Our First Lady. I am extremely disappointed in Michelle Obama.

Michelle O. seems to me to be jaded. I would have to guess she has good reasons to be this way …except for the fact that she makes a ton of money and is well ensconsed in the upper crust of our society.j A suffering negress I doubt she ever was …but I don’t really know.
Getting there, however she did probubly led her to this kind of perspective. She seems a strange partner for Barack from what I can tell. She is bleak, suspicious and kind of hard edged in my opinion. Barack seems much more hopeful, open and has a bit of a softer hand. I think it comes out of some misconception that every time she’s treated rudely anywhere that it is because the person is prejudiced against her because she’s black. If that’s the case, I have no explanation for why white people are also subjected to the same treatment in similar situations. Fact is that a lot of people around the world are just plain naturally rude, and it doesn’t mean “racism” just because she’s next in line to be treated badly.
Think a white man can just raise his hand in Manhattan at any moment and have a taxi? Think again.

It’s not her fault, though. The Jacksons and Sharptons and Wrights have her convinced that there’s some vast White conspiracy trying to oppress blacks, although I don’t think anyone can explain why.
She has said many things that had to be squelched like Wright. Obama lets everyone else do his talking for him so he can disown the comments later.
It was only when he was rattled by the Wright controversy that he wrote his own speech and as much as an emotional speech it was, it only gave his supporters reason to fall into denial again. However one key thing he did was to say his grandmother was a white racist as if that cancels out the black racism of his pastor. Somehow in the Obama equation having a white racist raise you and a black racist mentor you makes you a well adjusted person. Just the mere implication of that shows this guy is smart but nuts.
Obama’s camp continually lies for him and are caught. However again Obama is careful to not say much himself. Just parrot Hillary in every debate answer and let the hype take people.
Let her go live in a hut in Africa with Obama’s relatives for a while. Let’s see how fast she changes her tune.
