Do you think Barack and Michelle Obama will have a positive effect on black marriages?
Beyond the historical significance, even if Obama does not win the presidential race I think he and Michelle are leaving a legacy for the African American community, setting a standard concerning marriage and commitment among black people.
I do because when look on tv you do not see any positive black African american couples together. Even if there are together the are not marriage . So I think of seeing them together and knowing that they are not in the entertainment industry, but are in high position in America is a positive.
I doubt it.
Did Bill Clinton make me as a white person want so smoke cigars and pick up chubby chicks? No.
I hate to be pessimistic, but I don’t think Obama will change America much at all if he gets elected (McCain neither. New Presidents spend most of their time trying to fix the old president’s problems). There are plenty of positive black marriages in America. I don’t think a black president and a black first lady are going to instantly inspire more people to have great marriages.
It’d be cool if it did though.

Nope, I don’t think anyone cares really. Personally I don’t pay too much attention to Barack being married because I have never even heard of a single-president.

I hope so because here in my world they never marry just have babies .Now that is not to say it doesn’t happen to other races because of course it does all to often,

Yeah thats what i think is amazing about obama is that his married to a black women. Not the light skin standard that represents beauty in the black community. In the black community have u noticed how that white=beauty crap they were spreading during colonialism has somehow sticked.They are either after really light skin women or white women. Its self hate and destructive. But Michelle is a black women all the way. it’s shows that his above it all and he is the man to change our nation. If he was married to a really light skin woman or a white woman, i would wonder if he is with her because thats the standard for beauty or desirable and not some kind off trophy or because he has a real connection with her. And it would be really difficult for me to belive in the latter one. And its not just black guys all minority men especially all the professional ones who "make it" are sporting white wives. I find it hard to believe they are not trophies.

Whether you favor his candidacy or not you’d have to agree that neither of them are typical. They might be role models only if black people think that all African Americans can aspire to achieve what the Obamas have achieved, but I don’t think we’re anywhere near that.
