Congressman Blumenauer refutes Congresswoman Bachmann on House Floor
Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) refutes Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann’s (R-Minn.) claims on the house floor that carbon dioxide was not harmful. “The fact is that we have the highest concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for 2/3 of a million years. The consensus of the scientific community, not people making things up on the floor of the House, is that this has been profoundly influenced by human activity,” Blumenauer said.
Thankful I live in a district which consistently elects Rep. Blumenauer, as opposed to having to exist alongside those who would consistently vote for Michele Bachmann.
CO2 is inded a natural gas in the atmosphere. Unlucky for us CO2 produced from burning fossil fuel, isent a part of the natural carbon cyckle. That is the extra amount of CO2 that has been bound in the ground, mountain and water that is causing the global warming.
I love it! He comes across as opposed to Bachmann, while staying civil. Manages to sound intelligent while calling upon not his own observations but that of the scientific community, and he expresses what i think many people wanted to in response to blatant denial of harm from C02. AND he does it all with a bowtie and a bicycle pendant. Like a boss.
Carbon Dioxide is harmless. It helps plants give us oxygen. But here is the problem. The toxic pollution coming out of car and factories and the fact that we are losing forest. But instead of mentioning it that way all we here is global warming exist and global warming doesn’t exist. Who cares? The Earth is getting dirtier and dirtier and that is the truth. Why can’t we just switch to a better energy system? Why is our government so incompetent?
In typical regressive fashion, this moron doesn’t realise that Carbon Dioxide is needed by plants for photosynthesis…of course the CO2 levels are going to be a tad higher, they always have been…learn some basic chemistry, dude!!!
Human impact on the environment and on carbon has been pronounced since the advent of animal husbandry and since we have been eating herbivorous animals. Also, carbon pollution is negligible and self-correcting. We have to focus on how to make the best transition to clean and green energy we can. If it means we have to sacrifice our environment in order to let industry that leads to such transitions prosper, then so be it. We have to weigh the costs and benefits, not legislate based on ideology.
@circusboy90210 Humans burn tons of fossil fuel every day. It releases more CO2 into the atmosphere than would otherwise occur. That causes global climate change. It only takes on fucking degree to screw the planet for people. I live about 100 yards from the waterfront. If AGW isn’t stopped or slowed greatly, there’s a whole lot of the world population that will have to move inland. You think changing our habits is expensive, try moving a huge percentage of the global population inland.

drought can be x’d out, because drought is caused by lack of water, not excessive heat. and flooding is inevitable, theres gonna be excess water on top of the ground when it rains, it takes a while to absorb, but that can easily be solved by digging storm trenches. the flooding of new orleans wasnt caused by excess rain, it was caused by a wall that was trying to hold off the ocean, and then collapsed during the storm surge.

i was just pointing out the fact that its called the greenhouse effect, and if you know what a greenhouse is, you know its where plant life can flourish. now imagine the whole world receiving that effect. imagine how prosperous life would be. and as for the rest, its common knowledge. do you assume that if ice melts that none will evaporate? and do you assume that an increased temperature will only cause ice to melt and not water to evaporate?
