American society can be heartless–me, me, me, etc. But the least compassionate are conservatives. You can see that in the words of conservative leaders like Rush Limpbaugh and Ann Coulter.
Here are a few compassionate words from Rush:
“They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”
“We didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a terrible thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.”
“You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray” [the killer of MLK].
“Take that bone out of your nose and call me back”
And a few words of compassion from conservative Ann Coulter:
“We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.”
“If I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.”
“We need somebody to place rat poisoning in Justice Stevens’ creme brulee. That’s just a joke, for you in the media.”
“There are a lot of terrible republicans; there are no excellent democrats.”
“We need to do people like (John Walker Lindh) in order to physically intimidate liberals.”
“Liberals are always against America. They are either traitors or idiots.”
“My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building.”
The people you’re talking about probably just agree with some liberal political views. But being liberal in your life is about being:
“1. progressive. 7. broad-minded, unprejudiced. 9. beneficent, charitable, openhanded, munificent, unstinting, lavish. generous. and ample.”
That is a list of synonyms for liberal quoted straight out of the dictionary.
A lot of people may agree with liberal principles without really being liberal. Most people don’t know about what it really means.
Being liberal is very hard. If you are greedy or have other problems you just can’t do it. Conservatism is much simpler.
