Transcript: On March 28th, 2009, US Vice President Joe Biden met with the Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, to discuss new foreign relations policies. Upon starting the meeting, the PM congratulated the election victory, saying that the new administration will greatly assist with foreign relations compared to the previous administration. Biden then continues that the US must work hard to gain trust with their partners, while obtaining solutions to problems for both sides. He states that Spain has done a great job in Iraq, and that enhanced cooperation is needed. The Prime Minister admits that during the previous US administration, his policy for foreign relations was easy: Whatever Bush’s stance was, he would do the opposite, and he admits that this greatly helped him in the polls. Biden continues his dialogue, states that changing it will not be easy. The previous administration did not ask others in Europe what a general solution was, instead just doing what it pleased. Europe now wants to contribute to decision making that affects the world. Biden outlines that the US will ‘genuinely consult and listen to its European partners’.
