@ThePatriotHour your an idiot. We are not in this mess solely because of Bush/Cheney. The economy downturn started when Allen Greenspan and Clinton deregulated banks which caused the housing market bubble and banks giving away loans for houses as if it were candy. Now, Bush added to the problem when we went to Iraq. Remeber you dumbass, most economic downturns are caused way before they can predicted.
@achtung26 No he wasn’t. He misspoke. He meant to say 47 states, as in the continental US. It was not a joke, it was a misstatement. It’s not the misstatement that was pounced on, it was “What if Palin or Bush said that?” You would be on the other side ridiculing them for being stupid. But he gets a pass. And he should. It was a misstatement.
@truthadvocate Also, my perspective isn’t fixed on the issue. I take back my comment that Maher is an ‘idiot’ but not my opinion that what is culturally exposed CANNOT be solely determined by the market. Hollywood is determined by the market and aside from being formulaic, dull, and shallow, it does not aptly represent the attitudes and perspective of the American Public at all. The Market will never embrace what it doesn’t know. It’s just a thought.
@truthadvocate Bit of a leap there. I didn’t say honest people should go to jail, but taxes fund many, many things. It doesn’t hurt to fund creative perspectives that the commercial market would squeeze out because its ‘challenging’. I don’t think its as important as funding the troops, healthcare, roads, or other aspects of education. Also ‘government grant’ and ‘tyranny’ are fundamentally different things.
@SubjectE,
You have just proven that there is at least 1 person (yourself) among the public that values fine arts. I’m 100% sure you are not alone. If those people want to listen to classical music or view masterpieces then they can pay for it.
You support a system that threatens peaceful innocent people with imprisonment if they don’t pay taxes to fund fine arts against their will. That’s sick. It reminds me of how the Vatican enslaved Michelangelo. Art is no justification for tyranny.
maher is a total fuck stick that represents everything that is wrong with this country today,, would love to punch? him right in that stupid face!!!!!!!!!
Bill Maher is an idiot. Without Government funding for the arts, the market determines what becomes financed — that means that the same American public that Bill Maher is always ridiculing and calling stupid will be determining what art gets exposed. Yeah, some brilliant people will ‘just create,’ ie. someone much smarter than Bill Maher will comment on politics, but the smarmy-ass Maherians won’t buy it, so we will forever be unenriched by a better point of view.
i guess youve never watched the show, he likes obama but he calls him out all the time for a whole assortment of things. In the video, he was referring to obama’s social life and public image, he wasnt implying that obama never uses a teleprompter
Did this flaming lib just say Obama just ‘speaks and doesn’t use a Teleprompter’? Maher, acts like he’s not religious yet he worships Obama, and Bush is satan.
I do like his thoughts on getting gov out of the endowment of the “arts”. But his lord Obama wants gov in every aspect of life.
I liked how BIll Maher pointed out the ignorance of subsidizing sports teams. I don’t understand why cities subsidize sports teams because they think they can increase their cities revenue. The statistics have proved that subsidizing sports teams doesn’t help cities.
I really do hate Obama. But this is another example of media manipulation. Obama was in actual fact making a funny with regard to how many states there were. A reference to the fact that he’s been everywhere and then some on the campaign trail. The media (right wing) were jumping on it for several reasons least of which Obama is a moron. They kept us arguing small bullshit tid bits so none of us actually asked a reral question. ie “what’s your policy towards…”
they make fun of palin for not knowing africa was a continent but what about obama when he said there was 51 states how come we don’t here more about that like palin? Where’s the equality?

Bill Maher is a zionist shill.
See…

The national endowment of the arts only spends a few hundred million dollars a year which is a very very small amount of the budget.
I LOOOOOVVVVVE that king said “you can get the movie anywhere, even in South Dakota!!! as a SoDak, i had to try REAL hard to find it, but its true!

No politician is “real.” If you are consistently open & honest about your true feelings, you cannot win an election.
Endowment for the arts should not be a priority for government spending. There’s no reason it couldn’t be closed down immediately. Bravo.

I love Bill Maher! And I’m not a Lib or a Conserv, or a Dem or a Rep.

I am the only one who is sick of Larry King, and his phony laugh. Can,t CNN find some one under 90, to interview guest.
Good start Bill. But government has no right to run healthcare either.
That’s a good start. I’d like to hear Maher call for the abolition of the Department of Education.
OK, I guess being a critical thinker means you are “outrageous”. CNN… huh.
Bill Mahr is an artist! That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard!
your eyes are wide open my friend, the people lost control a long time ago

maybe Obamas idiotic statement got buried beneath the mountain of Palins idiotic statements that just keep on coming …
