Gay Wars: What We Saw at CPAC
The single-largest annual meeting of conservatives and small-government fellow travelers, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), kicked off in Washington, DC today on Thursday, February 10, 2011. The big story leading up to the conference was a high-profile boycott by outfits such as The Heritage Foundation and figures such as Sen. Jim DeMint (RS.C.) due to the participation of GOProud, a gay conservative group that lobbies for lower taxes and equality under the law. As a spokesman for Heritage put it, “We want to promote economic freedom, a strong national defense and social conservativism. We think these policies are indivisible…It’s not a boutique. You can’t pick one and not the other.” Reason’s Michael C. Moynihan was on hand to gauge the mood of CPAC. While some anti-gay conservatives stayed away, libertarians and small government types proliferated, agitating for less spending, an end to the drug war, and greater social freedom. And, in the case of the John Birch Society, a smiting from on high. Approximately 5 minutes long. Shot and edited by Jim Epstein.
he’s hoooooot!!!!
@bluv6 WTF is with black Democrats? Last time I looked it was Democrats who clung to slavery and passed segregation and Jim Crow laws in the south. Times change, politics move on, get over it.
@Vexed34
” I’m not religious folk but there is a gigantic difference between the example and prescriptions of Christ and that of Mohammed”
Huge difference.. However, I wasn’t implying that they’re the same. It was a response to someone that seemed to consider diversity unamerican and to be our weakness. If that were so, these muslim countries would be far ahead of us with their oppression of women, homosexuals, and non-muslims.
A “Christian Nation” would suffer the same shortcomings.
@TLydon011 I’m not religious folk but there is a gigantic difference between the example and prescriptions of Christ and that of Mohammed; to say otherwise is either a statement of shocking ignorance or worse. It is one thing to believe that all men are entitled to worship as they see fit, but it is nonsense to say that the precepts of every religion are equal and will return a civil society of reason and liberty.
Diversity as virtue is a doctrine of nihilism.
Having met and seen all of these people at the convention I can say that for the most part people were open to GOProud.
@bluv6: Because there are people like you who like to clump all conservatives under the “Republican” label as anti-gay. Because gay republicans obviously know the difference between what the mainstream media tells them and what conservatives really stand for, and it isn’t all about anti-gay
There’s a difference between anti-gay and against gay marriage. Personally, I really don’t care, I’m for equal rights for gay couples…whether they call it marriage or something else is an issue to its own.
WTF is with gay Republicans? Why try to belong to an organization that has spent decades working hard to deny your rights to just be who you are? Many of whose members feel perfectly justified in stating their hate for you and bigotry against you in the plainest and most open terms, and would like nothing better than to see you eliminated? Seems a lot like trying to be a black Klansman to me
Don’t believe in gay marriage? Think it’s bad for society? And no proof? Guess what I don’t give a shit!
Donald Trump a republican that just donated 100k to Rahm Emanuels campaign. What a farse.
And since when does sexuality have anything to do with politics? Leave it out or all you have worked so hard for (equality yada yada), will end up being for nothing, the people have had enough of it.
Starting to look to me like its not equality you want its special priviledges and maybe even supremecy.
Why else would anygroup call themselves “Gay” conservatives? Why not just conservatives period?
@SirWinstonChurchill
Regardless, you fail to understand that some of us are legitimately born heterosexual.. I’m not under the impression that abolishing homosexuality is necessary for the human race to continue.. Because, unlike you, I am not a repressed bisexual with an overwhelming preference for men. I am a heterosexual and am unconcerned and unafraid of what homosexuals (like yourself) do behind closed doors because I’m positive that some of us prefer women (me, for instance)
@SirWinstonChurchill
“born gay = birth defect”
I’m sure you, Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, and Fred Phelps can find other ways to get this message across without encouraging unconstitutional government power..
Did you ever notice that people like me, that are genuinely heterosexual have no issues with what homosexuals do to each other??
It’s only those of you struggling with temptation that are so homophobic.
@SirWinstonChurchill Seriously Churchhill, you’ve always been one of my favorite trolls on YouTube.
@SirWinstonChurchill
???
@TLydon011
Drop your cocks, put on your socks, there is a war…
The military is not a dating club.
You people spend so much time worried about your little wee wees that you forgot we have enemies…
@Loathomar
Loathomar, Jesus said “i and my father are one” so the Kingdom of God= the Kingdom of his dear son.
Also, if you attribute a different authority to the Epistles than you do to Jesus’ words you have already left the realm of acceptable discourse for orthodox Christians.
@schmij8
ah o.k. i think i got you now and agree. if a man is a faithful servant of God he can handle wealth and use it for God’s purposes, but if he is lust driven he will misuse it and destroy himself and it is THAT which God is against.
@Loathomar I’ve never said either is more evil. Worshiping money over God could be interpreted as a sin through the first commandment – I totally agree. If there was a group at CPAC who’s platform was the worship of money (which, I know, a good chunk of them do) I wouldn’t condone their participation, either. And I’ve never said their sin is worse than any of mine – it’s not. But I don’t create a political group with my sin at the center of it.
@Loathomar No, Jesus uses both parables and explicit teachings. In fact, he often follows up his sermons with explanations to the 12. After the “camel” quote, the 12 ask him who is able to get into heaven, to which he replies that through God anything is possible. Again, he’s telling them that being rich is not a sin, nor is it evil, but it can tempt and can rule man if they let it. At that point, yes, being rich would be a sin, because you are worshiping your money over God.
@Aphoresis But the key is in the first part of the verse: Blessed is the man that FEARS the Lord, that DELIGHTETH in His commandments. See, this is the example of worshiping God, and God rewarding. Again, Jesus warned against being rich, because man can be tempted to worship his money over God. This is different than God rewarding the faithful. I’m not sure if you’ve read my previous posts?
@schmij8 Really? You think a one line in the new testament about heathens be gay as part of there reason for being evil is more clear that Jesus being quoted 3 times say that Rich man will not get into heaven? Or is it just that you choice to believe it because you fine judging someone for being something you don’t want to be easier then judging someone who is something you want to be. It seems clear that Jesus wanted everyone to give all they can, it is between you and God if you are doing it.
@schmij8 Well that is one hell of a leap of faith, I mean to hope the Jesus did not want you to talk the literal meaning of one of the best recorded sermons he ever gave. I guess we could say that about any line in the bible, right? The only reason that it is the “common interpretation” is that the rich have rules the church for at least the last 1500 years and that would be damned if that where going to give up there riches to rule the church or even be thought Christan.
@Aphoresis Colossians 1:13 refers to “the kingdom of the Son he loves” not the Kingdom of God. And that was not something Jesus said anyways.
@Loathomar
“the kingdom of God ” is the spiritual order of God from which man was removed when he sinned. He passed from the Kingdom of God into the kingdom of darkness (Satan). When a person is born again the complete opposite happens. For point of reference see Colossians 1:13
Note that both the Apostle Paul and his audience were still ON EARTH when he wrote that.
@schmij8
God encourages who not be rich?
“Blessed is the man that fears the lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments, his seed shall be mighty upon the earth, the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and Riches shall be in his house and his righteousness endureth forever.”
But if you think God doesn’t want you to be rich you should stop playing around with it, make sure you have sufficient clothing and food and that’s it.
Youths for Western Civilization is a chauvinist and a quasi fascist organization… But i will defend their right to be wrong.
