The White House is asking supporters to report fishy health care info online. Is this even constitutional?
Wе аll thе know thе controversy surrounding thе Patriot Act аnd mοѕt feel іt’s аn Intrusion οf ουr constitutional rights, bυt уеt needed tο hеlр protect ουr nation.
Yеt јυѕt today thе white house іѕ calling οn іt’s supporters tο report fishy health care info tο thеm.
I don’t want tο know whаt thе Democrats dіd οr even thе Republicans. I want tο know іf reporting thе free speech οf others directly tο thе White House іѕ a breach οf trust afforded thе Executive Branch? Alѕο іf іt іѕ even constitutional?
I suppose it would be covered under the 1st in a newage techno way.
If they would go over and show the bill that would discredit any "fishy" info., either they haven’t thought of that option or don’t like the thought.
You can’t be charged for slander against a politician,,,,can you imagine how many suites Palin would have won if they could?
Added: AJ, if you do not see any difference between protecting this nation against terrorist and protecting an ego you need to go manipulate the PlayDoh.
start the witch hunt! report the neighbors you don’t like
It’s not Constitutional …… just like most everything else he does! And we allow it! WHY?
Read this.. who does it sound like?
http://www.ushmm.org/outreach/power.htm
Of course its constitutional. What would be unconstitutional about it?
Have any of these people READ the constitution?
There is nothing unconstitutional about forwarding an opposition e-mail.
Fighting slander is perfectly constitutional.
Of course it’s constitutional. You can say anything you want in the emails. The only problem would be if the government kicked in your door and hauled you away for what you wrote. That hasn’t happened.
I hear Obama is growing a small mustache now.
ok, so you feel the patriot act is ok? under that act, citizens had their phones tapped, their homes searched, and basically private rights were thrown out the window.
but, you’re all up in arms because they question (not force, mind you, and they’re not monitoring our emails or anything) folks to report fraudulent health care info emails/sites?
your stance seems a bit contradictory.
i’d reckon you’d be against both practices, eh? not just the one the GOP president signed off on…
if a guy rants about wanting to kill the president, is it also unconstitutional for the feds to kick his door in and haul the guy downtown?
That one is a pretty stupid blunder on the part of the White House. There are many people comparing this to actions of Nazi Germany and Communist regimes of the Soviet Union. There are also those who claim that this is an attack on freedom of speech.
I saw it yesterday. Here are some links about it.

Here is the actual site from the White House

What will be the constitutional test depends on what the White House does with the information it gathers from this site. If they use it to shut down people who are opposing health care reform then it will be unconstitutional. If they use it to make rebuttals then it is not. Somewhere in between is a line. The worst thing for them is the public relations aspect of this. It looks terrible. It looks like people are being questioned to identify people who do not agree with the president. It probably has other intentions but it looks like it is something really terrible. The White House should kill this program as quick as they can. I am surprised it is still up today.
Rather than question for "fishy" information, he should have made an email address for people who have questions. I questioned a question about this and I got all kinds of insults about the right. I’m an independent. They said there is an email address. It is the email address to the white house that is always there for all administrations. Nothing to address specific questions about health care.
I suppose its constitutional. I used it to voice my concerns and told them what I found "fishy" about their health care proposal. I told them why the "astroturf" oldsters are mad.
Hugo Chavez would be proud of Obama. This is an act of government abuse. You can’t get any lower then this. Pitting Americans against one another in an effort to pass your questionable government agendas. Especially when the President himself does not know or has not even read it himself. Apparently,he cares less what is reads. As long as he gets what he wants, regardless how many people may be effected by it. Government Mafia Thugs. This is an unspeakable act of dictatorship taking place in America against Americans and their freedoms of speech.
This is how Saddam Hussein and Adolf Hitler kept their control. They had every citizen spying on the other, reporting any nay-sayers to the government, which in turn they were imprisoned, killed, tortured, etc.
This may not be unconstitutional, but it is very scary as it is paving the way the Obama Administration’s plot to repeal the United States Constitution.
In all fairness, you have the right to say whatever you want, and the current administration has the right to make out of it whatever it can. So far, they cannot stop you from saying things that are not hateful or threatening. But with the propaganda coming from the left calling dissenters to the current administration racists and rednecks, we as Americans are likely to believe that it is a very small step towards restricting opposition to the President.
I reckon the White House is walking a thin line. They better be very diligent that no part of the administration or its lobbyists or special interests do not act on information they receive. This is the when the domino falls if they act on the information in a way detrimental to the subject labeled as the purveyor of "fishy" Information.
I reckon it is a excellent thing being able to report directly to the white house any american who disagrees with the Obama administration’s policies. I, for one, will start by reporting each and every fishy thumbs down that is posted on my answer.
