How do presidents “switch off” in the white house?
What I mean is: Does anyone know just what the process is when one president leaves and another comes in? Do the presidents actually live in the white house? Or is that just essentially a very big office; so, the current pres’ just doesn’t go into the office one day. Does he pack up a box of mugs, pencils, and photos of the wife and kids and just walk out to a limo? I wonder if they have PWS (President Withdrawl Syndrom.) What do you think?
The outgoing president is referred to as a lame duck because nobody listens to him anymore, waiting for the new president to come in. The new president is called the president elect because he’s been elected, but is not yet the president.
The transition takes place between election day (November 4 this year, but always the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November) and Inauguration Day (always January 20th). During the transition, the new president meets with the old president and the new presidents staff meets with the old president’s staff. The various secretaries who will be appointed meet with the outgoing ones and everybody learns their new jobs for a couple of months.
The lame duck president continues to live at the White House until Inauguration day. On that day, at noon, the president elect is sworn in in a ceremony somewhere in Washington, but not at the Whitehouse. The lame duck president must then vacate the whitehouse. He should be all packed up by then. A staff will reorganize the oval office the way the new president wants it between then and when he arrives later that day (at least that’s how they did that part on the West Wing).
Sometimes the outgoing staff plays pranks on the incomming staff, like gluing phones to the receivers and such. There were some complaints of that when Bush came in after Clinton, but it’s hard to know if it’s true.
I dunno but if Obama wins I hope Bush sucker punches him on the way out.
Like said in another post …… Vote for who ever ya want, it makes NO difference!! But what WILL make a difference, is if you vote OUT EVERY single incubant Senetor and Congressman, be it either Republican or Democrat, VOTE AGAINST THEM!!! Get them OUT!!! And you WILL see a change. Those the people responsible for everything that’s going on, all the President is, is a "Fall Guy" one person to blame, THAT’S ALL
