Why are most Americans blind to the world. That America is one of the most conservative countries?
I’m American why is the average American not taught about other countries successful gov’ts. That communists are totalitarian large governments, not socialists. That we are extremely conservative (right up there with Germany, and Australia). Why do average Americans not know we are a Republic. Why are we not taught these things?
Yea, anyone believe your American ?
simple, to create a brainwashed and docile citizenry.
You’d be surprised how many Americans are in fact aware. I was taught these things in school… and I went to regular old public schools.
Are you saying that socialism cannot operate within a communist political system? Perhaps someone does need a little more education.
When European nations determined last year that a U.S.-style stimulus was too socialistic (their wording) and irresponsible for them, what did you think?
because most americans are taught in liberal run public schools. They don’t even learn basic math skills until highschool.
by the way genius…socialism doesn’t exist as a form of government because it’s not sustainable as a form of government. True socialism is when there is no government and people spread the wealth evenly amongst themselves. If at any time a government decides how to spread the wealth and enforces that it becomes more communist in nature than socialist.
I have a masters in history and i have traveled the world. I’m quite aware of these other lands you speak of, their governments their people and their history. But thanks for your concern about my awareness levels. I highly suggest you go vist some of these “more advanced civilizations” to see firsthand for yourself just how wonderful they are.
And do America a favor by making it just a one way ticket out.
Thanks.
Most people would rather watch tv than educate themselves about who to vote for or what’s going on in the world.
1-like what countries for example?
2-thats obvious, but socialist are failures as well
3-majority of Americans are conservatives but we have enough loud mouthes libloons to take away from our reputation.
4-I am fully aware of that basic fact
Sweeping generalizations demonstrate intellectual laziness or mental illness. Which is it?
“War is God’s way of teaching Americans geography”
-Ambrose Bierce
It only took 5 years of bombing Iraq for Americans to understand the difference between Sunni and Shia.
Slow learners.
Americans tend to know less about other countries because America is so large. The typical Italian, for example, would expect to travel to other countries as a matter of course and often have friends of other nationalities. Many Americans grow up without ever leaving their country. There are also other cultural factors, including America’s national power (which leads to a high level of national pride) and a somewhat lackluster public education system (on the average) which doesn’t lead to a high level of public literacy about international matters.
Welcome to the modern America. The conservative base have been waiting for another Reagan since most people aren’t even taught what real conservatism is all about. They don’t have people read the Constitution , Bill of Rights or federalist papers. The liberal tainted media turns thier mind to goo and X socialist professors that have been filling people’s heads full of X 60′s BS for some time now. We knew America was being ‘dumbed down’ but no one really wanted to believe it.
Now we live in a time where the left wing has an ego, never learned the ethic to actually learn what they talk about before they open thier mouths much less understand history and that they are usually wrong with thier ideology.
But we can always hope they might learn…someday. I’d like to think Obama is the closest America will ever be to socialism, but if they don’t learn, the future may be bleak.
Germany and Australia are CONSERVATIVE? ROFL! Good one.
America is one of the most conservative countries…………..who is disagreeing? That is a good thing.
Conservatives feel free
You make the statement that America is one of the most conservative countries as if that were bad thing.
Being taught and learning are two separate things.
Someone with an entitlement mentality has little need for knowledge.
Europe, Asia and Eurasia (USSR) while falling apart have been moving toward the conservative and successful forms of people based participatory government and economies.
American Progressives have been pushing a leftist agenda to move America to an economic slave state.
The world as a whole has been since the time of the feudal lords and barons moving in a counter direction. These power hungry elitists would like America to become a country with a huge government ruling class ruling an underclass as in Feudal Europe.
If we do not learn from history we are doomed to re-live it. Learn from the history of Europe.
So when a country like Haiti gets ruined, where are all these successful countries? Why are they not sending troops and money like we are? Where is your hero country-China?
Your dream that everybody drift left is a delusion. So you are saying, “doesn’t the right know that it must drift left simply because it is on the right?” What stupidity and arrogance. How about we attack the far left with the same logic-don’t they know they are far left and the rest of the world is right of them? Why don’t they get with it and go right?
Perhaps you mean why are many narrow-minded evangelical Americans, especially fundamentalist/extremist Caucasian Protestants or Catholics, rigidly and arrogantly intolerant of and/or uninformed about other religions, cultures, and countries in the world? There have long been jokes about the prudish or puritanical attitudes of Western cultures (including the United States) towards sexuality or sensuality. We are also viewed as “unenlightened”, for the most part, on advanced Eastern philosophies or faiths which make use of seemingly supernatural (metaphysical) principles, such as levitation, ESP, mind-over-matter use (to include walking on burning coals, sleeping on a bed of nails), and the like.
A collective use of the word “we” is inaccurate, because quite a few Americans (such as myself) are NOT “extremely conservative” nor do we embrace the cult-evangelical movement that has spread like a cancer throughout U.S. government (Goldberg, 2006; Schaefer, 2007; Sharlet, 2008) attempting to suffocate the life out of those of us who DO comprehend the value of other cultures, other religious, other nations. My family lived in France in the 1950s, where my Air Force dad was stationed, and he made us each read the book, “The Ugly American”, before leaving, as well as a requirement to learn French, which we all practiced at the dinner table in preparation for our journey. He went ahead of us to find a village home far enough away from the U.S. military base that we could all blend into the culture of the people…and we LOVED IT! The people of the village, Koeur la Petit, embraced “les Americans” and lined the streets when we left France a few years later to each give our family a treasure from their homes and inspiring my mother to weep at the thought of leaving these dear people. There should be many more languages taught in our school systems, beginning in grade schools, and we as a nation would also benefit from a more indepth and comprehensive investigation of others’ cultures as well as histories (our own and others in comparison to each other). The more education one receives, the more tolerant one becomes…or so I’ve learned in life.
