AB962 is onerous gun control legislation that further harasses gun owners in California. Outlawing mail order ammunition purchasing, requiring in- person sales by state-trained employees, and keeping detailed personal information (to include thumb printing!) on the buyers will do nothing to increase public safety in California. Instead it creates another layer of bureaucracy that abrogates citizen privacy in the name of gun owner harassment. It is also an infringement of Second Amendment rights that could be subject to expensive but ultimately effective legal challenge. Over twenty years ago, Congress abolished similar requirements because ammunition sales records were found to be useless for solving crimes. Moreover it will have many unintended consequences such as increased difficulty in acquiring ammunition for law enforcement offices and providing a possible database that criminals could use to steal firearms from the residences of their owners. @twylo Unfortunately, 2nd Amendment support has been associated with the right.. and there are lots on the left who aren’t wacko socialist liberal whatever who are in favor of more left wing politics and economic policy, but also vehemently support responsible gun ownership by law-abiding citizens.

NRA plays politics. It talks the talk but will always compromise when it comes to legislation and never initiates lawsuits against the state … it just waits until it looks like the citizen suit is about to win and then tags along the coat tails.
I so angry that NRA has never outright filed suit against state legislation that restricts magazine round limits and safety taxes on certain handguns and carbine bullet magazine laws and the 922r defacing of foreign made firearms.

I wrote to Arnold asking that he veto this bill, and I was terribly disappointed when he didn’t. I’m so glad the law was overturned.

Just got the email from my ammo supplier sportsmansguide, the law was shot down in court and for now we can still mail order cheaper ammunition in bulk, from out of state. As unbelieveable as it may seem I think the US is going to have a currency melt down as many countries are conspiring to remove the dollar as the international trade standard thus the dollar may inflate into worthless. You will need firearms and ammo to survive the chaos.

Well this one was damn close to becoming reality. Just a week and a half away from the effective date of Feb 1.
We The People just dodged the bullet.
There were 3 separate lawsuits attacking AB 962, two Fed and 1 State level suits. Both Federal suits were tossed out as the Judge didn’t consider the issue “ripe” and no actual damage had occurred yet. AB 962′s shipment controls were preempted by the FAAAA, with a SCOTUS decision directly on point of the shipping issue. They would have been refiled.
The State *may* appeal, but until then and if the ruling is overturned, AB 962 is kaput.
Thankfully the legal system put this bill down. However, it should never have been an issue in the first place. We still have a lot of work to do to change minds, educate people, and get the correct people elected to represent us.
For now, however, we will celebrate this victory
