Chris Christie talks ethics reform at Raritan Township town hall
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is rolling out his new reform agenda with a series of town hall meetings around the state. At a meeting in Raritan Township, Hunterdon County, Christie laid out proposed ethics reforms that take on some sacred cows of New Jersey politics, starting with equal treatment for the governor and the legislature when it comes to new, tougher rules on financial disclosure. Also included in the reforms: a complete end to dual office holding, a limit of one public salary per state official, and an end to pensions for officials convicted of crimes. This man is by far the greatest interpersonal communicator in my lifetime.
” He’s antagonistic”, ” He’s confrontational” — How about ” He’s honest” and ” He doesn’t hide behind bullshit flowery jargon” instead?
@Hammerlix Hey jerk…where were the local officials when the snow fell? THOSE goons were responsible to reel in the DPW losers to get the job done
@veritasis1776 Do your own research. See how many of the wealthiest 3% have left NJ over the past few years. Do you want the rest of them to leave? Will that help NJ.?
Our missing Governor saved taxes, like when he eliminated auto safety inspections. The People still pay for Inspections, having a Governor during natural disasters and road plowing, BUT he eliminated the service, itself. If we pay for something that we don’t get, where do cash savings go? Answer: “Million Dollar Salary Tax Repealed” The million dollar a year families couldn’t care less… they don’t hang in Jersey for blizards, they’re in Florida partying with Governor Christie!
@Gabriar yay, give Iran a nuke or two behind our backs and forfeit the release of hostages.
Christie spoke against dual office to a media outlet while driving to a fundraiser for dual officeholder Carl Block.
Christie attended the swearing-in of Morris Freeholder William Chegwidden in January, who is also the mayor of Wharton. Christie’s close friend Brick Mayor Stephen Acropolis has taken a second public job as the director of the Toms River Municipal Utilities Authority. America, we have a problem….
He made good points about disclosure but so did the woman who questioned why the wealthiest 3% in NJ aren’t being asked to pay out. Christie should look at Washington’s Initiative 1098. If both father and billionaire son Bill Gates can support it, why not Christie? I-1098 would cut taxes on middle-class families while providing stable revenue dedicated to protecting education and health care priorities like K-12 class- size reduction efforts and Basic Health coverage. The wealthiest get taxed.
Good grief PLEASE RUN FOR PRESIDENT!
@TyrellMidland I’m not at all questioning his experience. I’m just saying I feel it’s too soon to be talking about him being a presidential ticket. That’s all. I agree, he’s got all the makings of a great leader and from what I’ve read has already done phenomenal in New Jersey.
@1RedshirtXLG I think people are more impressed with his character than his resume. Experience can be gained, knowledge can be acquired, etc. Character can be refined, but it is what it is. He’s straight forward, honest, up front and isn’t hiding his agenda. If all politicians could be like this man we wouldn’t be where we are now as a nation.
legalize marijuana, money issue over, crime reduced, drug smuggling over, gang funding…..gone!
It’s not that I hate this guy. I don’t I think he’s great. But come one, the man just became governor a year ago. Let him govern before we start talking about him being the next president. Maybe in the 2016 election we can have him as president, but for now let him run his state. Heh. God bless him though.
How refreshing to hear a politician say what he means, mean what he says, and carry out promises. He is absolutely right about cutting the budget; the numbers don’t work out to continue the huge pensions, pay raises, etc. NJ is drowning in debt and taxes; stop asking the govt to provide more and more for you. Why do I have to pay more for my health care so a teacher who makes more than I do gets a free pass? Let’s work on getting rid of the NEA. GO GOVERNOR CHRISTIE!
“All his cuts are coming on the backs of the lower and middle class…” says Maria Corfield. Teachers making around $80K a year ARE NOT Lower and middle class….asverage NON-UNION & NON-GOVT jobs only pay about 60K a year and work ALL YEAR LONG!
AND Please don’t focus on him saving the jobs of your fellow teachers by not giving you a raise! …rather him lay off a few thousand of you so you can buy a new Lexus or go on another vacation this year?
@Dmart38 legalize marijuana =] money issue over.
watch out liberals….next Reagan is rising
Oh my goodness I love this man! go get those rascals!
@etietc Yeah it is!!!! HAHAHAHA, blah blah blah, my union told me to say this, blah blah blah
3:01 is that teacher that got schooled by Governor Christie! Ha…ha…ha!
The upper class already chips in enough in this state. They’ve chipped in so much, we’ve lost 70 billion dollars of wealth over the last 4 years in this state. The solution cannot always be to raise taxes, it’s the simple way out. Considering that taxes and fees have been raised 115 over the last 8 years and we’re still in this mess tell us that something else needs to be done.
GO Gov. Christie!!!
Gov. Christie is exactly what this country needs. He is someone who will put the unions in their place and shut up the tried old arguements and lies the liberals and their union backers throws out at people who attempt to do the right thing. New Jersey will be a great state once again. America is starting to get it. Big government means big loss in liberty and prosperity.
Gov Christie the next time a teacher whine about loosing their jobs. Simple, the unemployment rate for teacher is 2% maybe(for Union is 0%), for New Jersey is 12+% ~, and teachers whining about loosing jobs?
Next time throw the question back at them. Are you Union. Your unemployment is 0% why are you whining?
This is the man I want to be in the White House to dismantle the failed experiment that is Obama. Governor Christie will be a shoo in if he does run.
