MSNBC w/ Cenk: Rich Tax Cuts – Obama Is Right But…
Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) filling in for Dylan Ratigan on MSNBC talks to Rep. Robert Andrews (D-NJ) about politicians fighting to extend the Bush tax cuts for the rich, some of which are within the Democratic Party despite president Obama coming out against an extension.
@AClRCLEOFLlGHT It’s not punishment! Basically, the argument is that the rich will spend their own money to provide jobs, ie finance the lower classes, if only the taxes were lower? So why should it be such a big shift in thinking to let the govt to enforce that by taking that 3% of income (only above a certain level) as tax and creating those jobs/services? I guess what I’m saying is that the rich people who use this excuse should put their money where their mouth is or stop using the argument
@Relbl : I’ll forgive the 2% difference 99%/97%, since its the rich that provide the most jobs in this country. The other thing is that you make it sound like middle class families have to scrape a living. No, they’re just forced not to live on credit, and only purchase what their incomes can afford. Ergo: a family of 3 is having a difficult time paying for their 5 bedroom house.
You can’t punish wealthy people for being successful.
@mike1111qq The NATO mission in Libya is not led by America, and that strike was not carrying out by American forces. That being said, I think it’s wrong that NATO should be making assassination strikes against Ghad’afi – even if he is a giant turd, he’s still a world leader and that kind of conduct against leaders is immoral… that’s where the whole idea of diplomatic immunity comes from; no govt should target to kill govt officials even if they are corrupt and committing loathesome acts
@AClRCLEOFLlGHT Here are some other Facts: the top 2% earn 99% of the income so even paying 97% of fed income tax isn’t balanced; Fact: fed income tax accounts for 55% of fed tax revenues, the other 45% are corp and consumption taxes; Fact: maybe ‘fair share’ shouldn’t be used, but a middle class or low income family that has to spend every dime they make to stay afloat has MUCH LESS ability to cope with higher taxes than someone making millions of dollars that they couldn’t spend in a lifetime.
We need to cut taxes on the rich because they create jobs. Some people think that a company will hire more employees when doing so will allow them to expand their business or will increase profits. This is not true. A business will hire more people when the owner has extra money laying around.
Fact: 47% of americans don’t owe taxes so they receive a full refund check after they file.
Fact: Every year, the top 2% pay between 93-97% of all income tax the government receives and keeps. The remaining middle class who live comfortably cover the 3-7% of the rest of the money the government keeps.
Fact: The term “fair share” when dealing with taxes needs to be removed from the average american’s vocabulary, since they pay nothing at all and complain about it.

GE EFFETIVELY PAID NO INOME TAX LAST YEAR!
Tax cuts for the rich! They used to pay over 50% in Fed taxes, but not now. Why do the rich get taxes cut, and workers get taxes raised, pay cut, and benefits cut if they manage to even hAVE A JOB! wHY DID THE RICH BANKSTERS GET BAILED OUT, AND THEN COLLECTED THE BIGGEST BONUSES IN HISTORY WHILE MILLIONS OF WORKING CLASS FILE BANKTRUPTCY?
@bishopville I agree.. well said
@martin43427 has it ever occurred to you they work for the same lobbyists?
@alacranmann Very well said.. Bravo!!!
BS!! History shows that when you cut taxes.. Revenue’s to the Gov’t go up!!! Cutting taxes doesn’t “cost” anything because it’s not “spending”! What these libs need to do is start spending wisely.. They tax and spend more than they tax.. then they tax again and spend more again!!! It’s not about taxing! It’s about wasteful spending!! Here’s just 1 example.. 100 million dollars for 50 million “green” stoves for impoverished countries.. that = $500,000 per stove.. WTF??
@Lovegear,one last thing to keep in mind,taxes are “MONEY THAT IS TAKEN AWAY FROM PEOPLE”,a tax break in reality is the government taking less money from someone who has earned such money legitimately.Now the government does need the financial support of it’s citizens UP TO A POINT!!.But when our money(rich,poor,etc)is used to cover the disgusting,irresponsible waste,that occurs in Washington every single day,then I’ll repeat what I said,advocating for more taxes on anyone is simply INSANE!!.
@Lovegear,the federal tax rate for someone making 350K and above is 35%,and that does not take into account local,state,property and sales taxes,so Norway dude don’t say that 65% is wrong.As a matter of fact in some cases it goes above if you include the death(inheritance) tax.Leaving that aside,even if it was less than that,when you tax productive people and take away THEIR!! money,to put it in the hands of incompetent bureaucrats,taxing said people even more is in fact,INSANE.
@alacranmann your 65% is completely wrong. Having that said, I live in a country with one of the highest taxrates in the world. People are complaining here as well. The biggest problem with taxing is usually that the taxes increase for those who are allredy paying high taxes. The richest in America and most other countries, in the vest or not, usually doesnt pay much taxes. That is a fact. I dont say you guys have to rob the wealthy, but giving a tax cut for about 40k to the richest?
@Lovegear,Did you know?,that the richest of Americans already pay about 65% of their income in local,state and federal taxes?.Let me ask you how much is enough or fair like people on the left like to describe it,90%,100%?.Did you know that the federal government wastes about 100 billion dollars “by their own estimate”,every fiscal year?.Again to me is simply insane that ANYONE would think that is smart in any way to give more money to the government.I’d be like giving more crack to a crackhead.
@alacranmann If anybody is tryng to demonize rich people, saying that they dont deserve their money, work for it ect, they are fools. But asking the richest in the country to give up some cash they can very well manage without in order to get rid of the deficit, help poor people and stabilize the country, ist that bad. A wealthy person paying more tax than a “normal guy” should be proud. He is helping his country stay on its feet. And nobody says that the taxes should increase permanently either
Isn’t a conservative democrat kind of an oxymoron? When I think of that it makes me think of a vegetarian crocodile. It just doesn’t make sense? to me. Maybe it is just me though. (Pretty much all of this is a joke, but politics in general is a joke anyways right?)
