Well, Reagan granted amnesty in 1986 and was re-elected to a de-facto 3rd term with the election of Bush Sr. Didn’t hear a whole lot of ruckus then. Fact is, granting amnesty is wrong. What about the thousands of immigrants who jumped through all the bureaucratic hoops and paid all the thousands of dollars in fees to come here legally? Granting amnesty to a bunch of illegals would be a slap in the face to them. It was wrong in 1986 and it’s wrong now.
