What the hell Chris Christie why did you do this?
I live in NJ and he just cut the school budgets by 68% and increased property taxes by $600 for Montgomery.
sorry it was state property tax

This is blatant lie about cutting school funding by 68%
I guarantee Christy will do a dam sight better job than the liberal idiot who almost bankrupted New Jersey before him. Exactly how do YOU expect him to cur your nightmarish state deficit…by out-of-control spending like Obama is doing?
Republicans are not big fans of education.
Do you have a source to shar with us?
Y’all wanted a Republican governor.
What did you expect?
Christie for President! The Governor does not set your town’s property tax. Your town sets its own budget and tax rate.
If the NJ school system is anything like most in the nation, their administrative level can probably afford a 68% cut. If they cut wisely, students shouldn’t be impacted negatively and teachers shouldn’t lose jobs.
I love in NJ too.
He has to start somewhere and the NJEA is out of control.
This is only the beginning.
Now, you the tax payer must get off of your butt go to meeting and demand that the fat be taken from the school budget.
Get rid of the 1 administrator for every school at 200,000 a year. Not necessary.
Go through your school budget line by line and make suggestions. Stop expecting everyone else to do it.
We are all going to get hammered one way or another-it’s going to get ugly but it needs to be done and I thank God Chris Christie has the nuts to do it.
After all is said and done-we can start adding back in what worked minus all the other garbage..
Ok, the other option was what? let the State continue hemeraging cash? what about the 21 years of state service for 1.7 million in benefits state employees get? WTF? sign me up for that. Thats why NJ is going bankrupt. Entitlements, lavish retirement packages, out of control spending, how do you think your’re going to be able to stay solvent?
Someone has to make the hard decisions.
Because he can.
I also live in NJ. My school district lost almost almost $2 million. Even though they haven’t planned anything yet, they’re probably going to cut the junior varsity teams and a few extra-curricular activities. They put so much emphasis on sports around here so the arts are probably going to be hurt the most. I’m scared to death that they’ll get rid of the theatre program all together or give it even less funding than it had in the first place.
It was not a smart move to attack the Teachers Union. While lowering property taxes is important, it cannot be solved by cutting state aide. If anything, it will make local governments and schools rely on property taxes even more to account for all the funding they lost. Sure, the rich will benefit, but the middle class, seniors, and the lower-income families will have to pay even higher taxes. Education should be of high priority. Compared to the rest of the world, America is lagging behind in math and science tremendously. We need better teachers, but who will be interested in working in a job where they cannot receive the money that they deserve?
I’m not speaking as a Democrat or Republican, but as a student. I may be young, but I am affected by all of this, too. When I grow up, I want to live in a country that isn’t divided by hate. I’ve seen long-lasting friendships being torn apart by politics. I’ve seen people turn on their families because of arguments over health care, gay rights, or abortion. I want to see my peers becoming interested in their studies and actually use what they learn. I want to see college tuitions go down and become more available to everyone else. I want our test scores to rise so that we may actually compete with countries like China and India. When I watch the news, I want to be able to go one day without hearing of a senator’s corruption or the hardships of the poor. Can shunting education off to the side really solve this?
Chistie cut the state aid to Denville NJ by 5% of the TOTAL schoool budget. That’s 1.34 million dollars. Suburban schools across NY are all in the same boat. It’s a crime that class sizes are increasing, schools are falling apart yet Christie CUT taxes for the most wealty NJ citizens (Christie’s budget failed to extend the recent increase in the state’s top income tax rate, initially put into place by then Gov. Jon Corzine (D). The result is that the top 2% of NJ taxpayers will face a reduced rate in the upcoming tax year while other taxpayer rates stay the same. The cost in lost revenue? About $1 billion.)
Watch the video the whole thing – it’s scary how callous he is. He picks on teachers that get very little for all their efforts while defending the Wall Street Bankers!
He is also trying to get 300 million of taxpayer money to bail out a morgan stanley casino!!! He’s trying to deny the vote to prevent it from happening. Morgan Stanley is seeking over $300 million in tax subsidies to bailout its investment in Revel Entertainment, a half-built $2.6 billion casino in Atlantic City. According to the Wall Street Journal, Morgan Stanley is the “sole backer” of the casino.
Under the proposal, Morgan Stanley’s casino would be given back 75% of its property taxes, sales taxes, and other taxes for twenty years. How just is this?!?!?!
Christie is gutting public education while making the most ridiculously wealthy even richer! Talk about creating a rift in classes.
