Before leaving with a trade delegation for China and Japan to discuss international commerce with Minnesota companies, Governor Tim Pawlenty held a brief press conference this morning at the Lindbergh terminal. The UpTake asked the Governor about disparities between the state’s current $6 billion deficit under his watch, and GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer’s inference that Minnesota doesn’t actually face a deficit — or won’t if expenditures don’t change under his watch. Pawlenty agreed with his would-be successor Emmer, saying that we shouldn’t budget based on some bureaucratic estimate, and that, instead of committing to cuts, we should force the legislature to live with a certain amount of spending money. All eyes will be on Tom Emmer now, who seemingly committed — during a handshake at a gubernatorial debate in Duluth earlier this week — to releasing his proposed budget cuts during tomorrow morning’s debate in St. Paul. … We’ll have to wait and see.

White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said today the decision was made to release the full document in response to increased attention on the issue, including a political stunt by Donald Trump, who claims he may challenge Obama in 2012 for the presidency. Pfeiffer did not mention Trump by name. Numerous researchers have questioned the place of Obama’s birth, including author Jerome Corsi and attorney Phil Berg. Pfeiffer said “internet chatter” had moved into the national political debate and ended up being discussed regularly on the corporate media. Prior to Trump’s challenge that he would produce his birth certificate, the corporate media assiduously ignored the issue. Obama discussed the release of the document Wednesday morning at the White House. “We’re not going to be able to solve our problems if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers,” he said. The document lists Obama’s birthplace as Honolulu, Hawaii, and his birth date as Aug. 4, 1961. The hospital listed is Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital. The name on the birth certificate is Barack Hussein Obama II. Article Two of the United States Constitution states that “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of

It endorses reduced government spending, opposition to taxation in varying degrees, reduction of the national debt and federal budget deficit, and adherence to an originalist interpretation of the United States Constitution. The name ‘Tea Party’ is a reference to the Boston Tea Party, a protest by colonists who objected to a British tax on tea in 1773 and demonstrated by dumping British tea taken from docked ships into the harbor. Some commentators have referred to the Tea in ‘Tea Party’ as the bacronym ‘Taxed Enough Already’. The Tea Party movement has caucuses in the House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States. The Tea Party movement has no central leadership but is composed of a loose affiliation of national and local groups that determine their own platforms and agendas. The Tea Party movement has been cited as an example of grassroots political activity, although it has also been cited as an example of astroturfing
