I know the story behind the Democratic Party’s symbol being the Donkey, that Andrew Jackson started it and a cartoonist got it going. I know that reasoning, I just wanted to know why the Republican Party’s symbol is an elephant? I know that the Republicans are the GOP, Grand Old Party, and I just wanted to know why that was there symbol. Did it have anything to do with Lincoln being the first true Republican?
